KAY LASH COLLECTION, CARNEGIE PUBLIC LIBRARY OF STEUBEN COUNTY, ANGOLA, INDIANA, PUBLISHED JANUARY 12, 1910, IN THE STEUBEN REPUBLICAN, ANGOLA, INDIANA AMASA SAMS, 13 Jan 1835 - 04 Jan 1910 Amasa Sams was born in Richland county, Ohio, Jan. 13, 1835, and died at his home on Jackson Prairie, Steuben county, Ind., Jan. 4, 1910, aged 75 years, 11 months, and 21 days. He was brought by his parents to Jackson Prairie in the fall of the year in which he was born, and he has lived on the same farm all the years that have intervened since that early day in the history of Steuben County. He was one of a family of eight children, two of whom survive him, his brothers, Darius and Henry. Dec. 27, 1859, he was united in marriage with Miss Matilda Richner, and to the union was born five children, Adalaide Ione, the first born dying in infancy. There remain to mourn their loss, his wife, one daughter and three sons. His late home and its surroundings indicate that Mr. Sams was industrious and frugal. He will be missed. Sams, 06 Dec 1801 - 16 Apr 1874, who, on 10 Apr 1822, married Elizabeth (Baker) Sams, 20 Jun 1800 - 1888. They are all buried at Jackson Prairie Cemetery, Steuben County, Indiana. CHILDREN OF THE MARRIAGE: Adalade/Adalaide Ione Sams, 10 Aug 1860 - 26 Aug 1861. She is buried at Jackson Prairie Cemetery. Hattie L. (Sams) Lamb, 1861 - 15 Aug 1914, became the 1st wife of Frederick Lamb on 30 Oct 1884. They are buried at Jackson Prairie Cemetery. His 2nd wife was Helen Starrett. Hattie died at Fort Wayne, Indiana. Milo S. Sams, 03 Feb 1865 - 10 Apr 1932, on 17 Jun 1886, married Evolena (Coleman) Sams, 1868 - 05 Aug 1949. They are buried at Jackson Prairie Cemetery. Evolena was the daughter of John Coleman and his 1st wife, Sarah (Whitman) Coleman. Charles/Charley Amasa Sams, 18 Jul 1868 - 29 May 1945, married Louvilla Mae (German) Sams, 1872 - 1909. They are buried at Jackson Prairie Cemetery. His 2nd wife was Evelyn Dyer, burial place unknown. Lester J. Darius Sams, 30 Jun 1829 - 02 Nov 1915, in 1853, married Phebe J. (Lounsury) Sams Sams, 16 Feb 1832 - 21 Apr 1908. She was the widow of Darius' brother Daniel Sams. She was the daughter of Nehemiah Lounsbury who died in 1871 or 1872, and Hester (____) Lounsbury who died 07 Dec 1849 or 16 Jan 1850. They are buried at Jackson Prairie Cemetery. The cemetery book lists 1872 as the date of death for Nehemiah and 07 Dec 1849 as the date of death for Hester. Sarah Ann (Sams) Carpenter, widow of Alexander Carpenter. Abdillah B. Sams died 16 Jun 18__, aged 61 years, 2 months and 19 days, married Mary A. (Simmons) Sams, 12 Nov 1838 - 04 Apr 1906. They are buried at Jackson Prairie Cemetery. Mary was the daughter of Cephas and Eliza (Churchill) Simmons. Henry Baker Sams, 29 Apr 1837 - 27 Jan 1921, married Eunice E. (Thompson) Sams, 1841 - 18 Dec 1919. They are buried at Jackson Prairie Cemetery. Daniel Sams, died 20 Nov 1851, married Phebe J. (Lounsbury) Sams Sams, 16 Feb 1832 - 21 Apr 1908. As a widow, she married her brother-in-law, Darius Sams.
