HENRY BAKER SAMS, 29 Apr - 27 Jan 1921 Henry Baker Sams Son of David and Elizabeth Sams, was born on Jackson Prairie, Steuben County, Ind., April 29, 1837, and died at the home of his daughter in Angola, Ind., Jan. 27, 1921, aged 83 years, 8 months and 28 days. August 15, 1858, he was united in marriage with Eunice E. Thompson, also of Jackson Prairie, the daughter of James and Seripta Thompson. To this union were born three children, two sons, Gilbert and Charles, both dying while young, and one daughter, Jennie, wife of Frank Braman, of Angola. Fifty-seven years ago Mr. Sams, with his wife, moved to a farm near Crooked Lake, which was their home until the death of Mrs. Sams, December 18, 1919. Since May 1920, he has lived with his daughter in Angola. The Crooked Lake farm, as he left it, was the result of years of toil and hardship for him and his companion, only one field being cleared when they moved there in the pioneer days. Mr. Sams was a considerate husband and father, and an obliging neighbor. For over fifty years he had been a member of the Masonic order. He was the last of a family of eight children, and leaves to mourn his going his young daughter and her husband, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Braman, two granddaughters, Mrs. Pearl Spangle of Cleveland, O., and Mrs. Pansy Anspaugh, of Crooked Lake, Ind., two great-grandsons, Robert and Max Spangle, besides cousins and many nieces, nephews and friends. Sams, 06 Dec 1801 - 16 Apr 1874, and Elizabeth (Baker) Sams, 20 Jun 1800 - 1888. They are all buried at Jackson Prairie Cemetery, Steuben County, Indiana. Eunice was the daughter of James and Seripta (____) Thompson. CHILDREN: Gilbert T. Sams, 23 Mar 1860 - 25 Apr 1861. Jennie M. (Sams) Braman, 1864 - 1953, on 22 Mar 1885, married Frank E. Braman, 1866 - 1929. They are buried at Circle Hill Cemetery, Angola, Steuben County, Indiana. SIBLINGS OF HENRY BAKER SAMS: Mary Jane (Sams) Trux, wife of Charles Trux of Williams County, Ohio. Darius Sams, 30 Jun 1829 - 02 Nov 1915, in 1853, married Phebe J. (Lounsbury) Sams Sams, 16 Feb 1832 - 21 Apr 1909. Phebe was the daughter of Nehemiah Lounsbury who died 16 Jan 1871, and Hester (___) Lounsbury who died 16 Jan 1850. They are all buried at Jackson Prairie Cemetery. The cemetery book states that Nehemiah died in 1872 and Hester died 07 Dec 1849. Also, Phebe, as the widow of Daniel Sams, married her brother-in-law, Darius. Sarah Ann (Sams) Carpenter, widow of Alexander Carpenter. Abdillah B. Sams, died 16 Jan 1894, aged 61 years, 2 months and 19 days, married Mary A. (Simmons) Sams, 12 Nov 1838 - 04 Apr 1906. They are buried at Jackson Prairie Cemetery. Mary was the daughter of Cephas and Eliza (Churchill) Simmons. Daniel Sams died 20 Nov 1851, married Phebe J. (Lounsbury) Sams Sams, 16 Feb 1822 - 21 Apr 1908. As a widow, she married Darius Sams, her brother- in-law. Peter D. Sams, 08 Oct 1824 - 21 Oct 1860. He is buried at Jackson Prairie Cemetery. Amasa Sams, 13 Jan 1835 - 04 Jan 1910 married Matilda (Richner) Sams, 09 Sep 1840 - 31 Aug 1915. They are buried at Jackson Prairie Cemetery.
