KAY LASH COLLECTION, CARNEGIE PUBLIC LIBRARY OF STEUBEN COUNTY, ANGOLA, INDIANA. SYLVIA (ABBOTT) SANDERS, 10 Mar 1835 - 30 Apr 1911 MRS. SYLVIA SANDERS Daughter of Chancy and Malvina Tillotson Abbott, was born March 10, 1835, at Northfield, Oakland county, Michigan, and died at her home in Orland, Indiana, April 30th, 1911, aged 77 years, 1 month and 20 days. She was united in marriage with Elijah T. Sanders, June 3, 1855, and to them were born six children, one, their first born, dying in infancy, and Eugene at the age of 21. She leaves to mourn her departure an aged husband and four children, Chancy, of Bakersfield, California; Mrs. Effie Cooper, of Jamestown; Norman, of Orland, and Mrs. Ethel Grier, of Greenville, Pennsylvania, all of whom were with her and helped care for her in her last illness. Deeds, not words, were the keynote of her character, whether in the home, the Grange, of which she was a devoted member, or in the neighborhood where she resided; always fearless where duty called, helpful in sickness, and when the death angel hovered over a household, a sympathetic friend and comforter. Surely a noble life has closed and will be sadly missed by all who knew her. Funeral services were held at the home, conducted by Rev. Stoakes, of Orland. Burial at Green Lawn cemetery.
