STEUBEN REPUBLICAN, WEDNESDAY, APRIL 2, 1902, page 5, column 5 ADAM SCHAAF, 07 Jul 1816 - 28 Mar 1902 Adam Schaaf was born in Bavaria, Germany, on July 7, 1816, and died at his home in Angola, Indiana, March 28, 1902, aged 85 years, 8 months and 21 days. He came to America in 1829, and after living a brief time in Pennsylvania, he removed to Seneca county, Ohio, where he remained until 1857. In July of that year he removed to Kosciusko county, Indiana, where he lived until 1888, since which time he has lived in Angola. In July, 1841, he was married to Catherine Hendricks, who died May 2, 1862. Nine children from this marriage still live. He was again married in 1867 to Mrs. Eliza Arnold Leach. She and one daughter and one son survive him. For many years he was a member of the German Baptist church at Spring Creek, Kosciusko county, and always spoke of his willingness to depart this life. For weeks he had been failing and without sickness, pain or fear he fell asleep. The funeral was held from the family home on Mill street Monday afternoon, March 31, conducted by Rev. A. G. Neal.
