STEUBEN REPUBLICAN, WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 29, 1902, page 1, column 6 WILLIAM DENISON SCOVILLE, 27 Oct 1822 - 19 Oct 1902 William D. Scoville was born in Onondaga county, N. Y., Oct. 27, 1822, and after an illness of only five days, died at his home in Richland township, Steuben county, Ind., Oct. 19, 1902, aged 79 years, 11 months and 22 days. He was married on Oct. 27, 1849, to Clarissa Sheffel, and to this union were born two sons, Leonard J. and William W. On June 12, 1862, the wife died. December 23, 1863, he was married to Julia Ann Trobidge, and to this union were born two daughters, Clara E. and Elzena J. Dec. 21, 1969, this wife died. Feb. 12, 1871, he was married to Mary F. Watkins, and to this union were born five children, Mott F., Myrtle E., Ernest E. (died in infancy), Frank D. and Fred S. May 27, 1899, this wife died. Mr. Scoville came to Steuben county, Ind., with wife and one child, and had lived all these years on the farm where he died. The first day of his sickness he said, "I would like to get well, but I am a pretty old man and have not much longer to stay any way." He was a good neighbor, kind friend and loving father. His house was set in order, he was ready for the summons. If the years, months and days of her age are correct, she died in June as her obituary states, not January as listed in the cemetery book.
