STEUEN REPUBLICAN, WEDNESDAY, NAY 18, 1904, page 1, column 6 SARAH ELIZABETH (CHASEY) SHADE, 03 Sep 1833 - 12 May 1904 Sarah Elizabeth Chasey was born in Wayne county, Ohio, Sept. 3, 1833, and died at Helmer, Steuben Co., Ind., May 12, 1904, aged 70 years, 8 months and 9 days. She was united in marriage to Richard Shade in 1855 and came to Steuben county in 1858. She was the mother of eleven children, three of which preceded her to the grave. She had 22 grandchildren; a rare coincidence in that her mother had the same number of children and grandchildren at the time of her death. Her husband was a soldier in the Civil War and died Feb. 15, 1879. She lived in widowhood 25 years, kept her children together until they were grown to manhood and womanhood. She was a member of the Church of God for over 40 years and was considered by all who knew her to be a consistent christian. She was a kind mother and neighbor and will be missed and mourned by her family, the church and the neighborhood. Her funeral occurred from the church in Helmer; the services were conducted by Rev. I. W. Markley, of Columbia City, Ind.
