Almira D. Shutts Dewey

Daughter of Chas. And Susanah Shutts and sister of the late Herman C. Shutts, of
Jamestown, was born near Clyde, Sandusky County, Ohio, Dec. 24, 1841; died at the home of her
son, Dr. F. N. Dewey, in Elkhart, Ind., Aug. 11, 1901.
Mrs. Dewey’s early life was spent on the home farm in Ohio. Soon after the death of her
father, in 1859, she came to join her brother and sisters in Indiana, where she was married to
Charles T. Dewey in 1862. After a number of years spent on the farm in Jamestown Township they
went to Fremont and later moved to Hillsdale where Mr. Dewey died some years ago, since which she
has spent most of the time with her children, all of whom were present at her funeral which
occurred on Tuesday, August 13, at the home of her stepson, Frank Dewey, conducted by Elder C. S.
Medbury, of the Angola Christian church and she was buried by the side of her husband in the
Jamestown cemetery. Mrs. Dewey was a devoted wife and mother, a loving sister and a faithful
friend. Dr. F. N. Dewey, wife and daughter of Elkhart, Dr. Herman Dewey, wife and daughter of
Bellevue, O., Misses Alice Dewey, of Dakota and Grace Dewey of Vassar, Mich. (obituary cut off

(Ritchie) Shutts. She was the 2nd wife of Charles Truman Dewey, 1830-1861, who was the son of
Truman C. and Welthey (Foreman) Dewey.
Sister: Mary Jane (Shutts) Wilder, 03 Feb 1837-22 Dec 1912.
Brother: Herman C. Shutts, 06 Jun 1839-27 Apr 1897, married Mary M. (Collins) Shutts,
born about 28 Nov 1844-died 28 Dec 1923.
Sister: Lucy Clorene (Shutts) Colvin married Hiram M. Colvin (from the Shutts family
Bible at the Steuben County Library, Angola, Indiana).
