LUCRETIA JOHNSON EVANS HANDY SMART, 09 Jan 1825 - 31 Dec 1896

   Mrs. Lucretia Smart died Dec. 31, 1896, at the residence of her 
sister, Ms. J. B. Knisely, In York township, in the 72d year of her 
age.  Mrs. Smart was born in Ravenna, Portage Co., Ohio, Jan. 9, 
1825.  In 1841 she was married to Jabez Evans and they emigrated to 
York township in 1852, where they resided until the death of Mr. 
Evans, Jan. 24, 1863.  In April, 1864, she was married to John H. 
Handy, who died Jan. 26, 1879.  April 18, 1881, she was married to 
Richard Smart.  She then removed with Mr. Smart to his home in 
VanBuren township, LaGrange Co., Ind., where she lived until the 
death of Mr. Smart, Dec. 7, 1894.  She is survived by her sister, 
Mrs. J. B. Knisely; an adopted daughter, Mrs. Lucretia Martin, of 
Reading, Mich.; step-sons-Jno(?) W. Handy, of Flint, Mich.; Bryson 
Smart, of LaGrange county; step-daughters-Mrs. Addie Remington, of 
Shipshewanna, Ind.; Mrs. Hannah Vaneppo, of Scott, Ind.; and Mrs. 
Della Bean, of Girard, Ohio.  Mrs. Smart was loved by all who met 
her and a friend to all she knew.  She led the life of a consistant 
christian and had been a member of the M. E. church for sixty years.  
The funeral services were held at the M. E. church Sunday at 10:30 
a.m., conducted by Rev. A. A. Stockdale.

daughter of Silas and Aseneth Johnson. 
   1st husband:  Jabez Evans, died 24 Jan 1863, aged 50 years, 8 
months and 22 days.
   2nd husband:  John H. Handy, died 26 Jan 1879, aged 63 years, 9 
months and 14 days.
   3rd husband:  Richard Smart, died 07 Dec 1894, in Van Buren 
Township, Lake Grange County, Indiana.
   Sister:  Emma S. (Johnson) Knisely, 22 May 1836 - 1905, married 
John B. Knisely, 27 Nov 1830 - 26 Nov 1912, son of David and Sarah 
Knisely.
   Lucretia and her husbands are buried at York Cemetery, Steuben 
County, Indiana.  Emma and John Knisely are buried at Circle  Hill 
Cemetery, Angola, Indiana.
