JANE BROWN SMITH,06 Apr 1821 - 28 Sep 1900

   Jane R. Brown was born in Oswego county, N.Y., April 6, 1821.  
She lived there until she was married to Hoyt Smith, Jan. 5, 1840.  
She came here and took up government land in 1841, then went back in 
1842, and came back to the tract of land in 1844, and lived there 
until the death of her husband in 1889.  After which she sold her 
farm, moved to Flint, where she lived until her death, Sept. 28, 
1900.  She went to Angola last Tuesday and while on her way stated 
that about 50 years ago was the first time she was at Angola, and 
went with an ox team.  She visited at Mrs. Elizabeth Emerson's, came 
home that evening and was stricken with paralysis, from which she 
died Friday evening, aged 79 years, 5 months and 29 days.

Steuben County, Indiana.
