According to Town Marshal, Ed Swartzwalter, who investigated the accident, Penix was driving south and after signaling, made a left turn into the driveway at his home in Orland. Stayner, who was driving the same direction behind the truck, was unable to stop his motorcycle. After skidding several yards he lost control and crashed into the side of the dump truck body. The impact threw him against the side of the truck. Dr. A. W. Goodale was called and administered first aid until the ambulance arrived. Stayner was taken to the Cameron Hospital where he died only a few minutes after arriving there. He had a fractured skull, broken right arm and broken right leg and possible internal injuries. Tragedy has stalked the Stayner family for a number of years. Twelve years ago, Bliss Stayner Sr., father of the youth, was electrocuted in his garage at Orland. About five years ago the grandmother, Mrs. Oliver Stayner, was fatally burned at her home when her clothing caught fire from a stove, and a short time later the grandfather died. Blis has lived with his cousin, Mr. and Mrs. Ora Stayner in the Oliver Stayner home since that time. Surviving are three uncles, Kern Scripture of Orland; Frank Stayner of Colorado; and Winn Stayner of North Dakota; and two aunts, Mrs. Lucile Hedglin of Hudson, and Mrs. Laura Blanning of New York State.
