BLISS EUGENE STAYNER SR from Steuben Republiccan. November 21, 1923, page 1, column 1. ORLAND MAN KILLED BY ELECTRIC SHOCK NECK BROKEN IN FALL FROM WORK BENCH Bliss Stayner, 28, the Victim-He Leaves Wife and Child Bliss Stayner, aged 28, died within a few minutes after receiving an electric shock while at work in his garage south of the public corner in Orland about 4:30 o'clock last Saturday afternoon. Burns in his left hand, and the electric lamp which he was in the act of turning on, broken from its fastenings, indicated an electric shock. He had gotten up on a bench to turn on the light and fell without a word, striking on the bench and floor. An autopsy was held on Tuesday by Drs. Goodale, Creel and Lake, and they found the second vertebra in the neck broken, as well as indications of the electric shock. With Stayner in the garage at the time, were his father, (James) Oliver Stayner, and Frank Seaman. Frank Salisbury was approaching the garage at the time, and saw these two men run out as he entered and he found the young man lying unconscious on the floor, the others having gone for aid. Dr. Goodale soon arrived and pronounced the man dead. Other people in the vicinity claimed to have trouble with the electric lights during that day. The funeral of the victim was held in Orland yesterday. He is survived by his wife and one child. It is said that he had an insurance policy which provided for the payment of $10,000 in case of accidental death. * * * * * * LIFE OF BLISS STAYNER from Steuben Republican, November 28, 1923, "Orland Department", page 6, column 4.
