CLARA STAYNER from Steuben Republican, March 4, 1942, pg 3, col 5 MRS. CLARA STAYNER Clara Gay Stayner, daughter of Frederick and Emmaline Baker Gay, was born October 6, 1871, in Tuscarawas County, Ohio, and passed peacefully on to the Great Beyond in Angola, Ind., on the morning of Feb. 25, 1942, at the age of 70 years, 4 months and 19 days. When she was four years old, she came with her parents and brother to Indiana to live. She attended the Booth school in LaGrange County, and her happy girlhood days were spent with her parents and brother and sister. On Dec. 10, 1896, she was united in marriage to Thomas M. Stayner of Steuben County. To this union was born one daughter, Geneva. After nearly forty years of life together, her husband preceded her in death in 1936. She was of a quiet and reserved nature. She was kind and industrious, a good neighbor, a loving wife and mother and no sacrifice was too great for her family and friends. She leaves to mourn her going the daughter, Geneva, her son-in-law, Chas. A. Johnson, one sister, Mrs. Margaret Schwarm of Mongo, one brother, William Gay of Mongo, several neices and nephews and cousins and a host of friends. Home is not home, Mother is not there, dark is her room, empty her chair. Angels have taken her out of our care, lifted her over life's golden stair. Sleep, Mother, sleep, with your hands on your breast, Poor weary hands, they have needed a rest; Well we have loved you, but god loved you best; Dear Heart! He is giving you well deserved rest! ADDITIONAL NOTES: Her husband, Thomas M. Stayner, was the son of Jesse and Catherine (Dilse) Stayner. He was born 29 Apr 1868 and died in 1936. Thomas and Clara are buried at Greenlawn Cemetery, Orland, Indiana. Submitted By: Mona Hilden-Beckwith E-mail: hilbeck123@att.net
