STEUBEN REPUBLICAN, WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 25, 1925, page 1 DOLLY JANE (POWERS) STAYNER, 02 Apr 1835 - 16 Feb 1925 PIONEER PASSES AWAY Mrs. Dolly Jane Stayner, the last survivor of the party which came from Allegheny county, New York, and founder of Powers' Settlement in Steuben county in 1837, passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Lydia Purdy, near Lake Gage last week at the age of 87 years. There were four of the Powers men in that early day cavalcade and the deceased was a little babe, daughter of Stephen Powers. She married Perry Stayner of Jackson township, and two children survive, Oliver Stayner and Mrs. Purdy. The deceased was a bright, intelligent lady, until very recent years was able to talk accurately and interestingly of the pioneer days of Steuben county. The funeral was held last Wednesday at the home of her daughter, and the interment was in Jackson Prairie cemetery. She married William Perry Stayner, 11 Feb 1829 - 08 Jan 1915, son of John Stayner, 08 Dec 1796 - 05 Sep 1878, and Sarah (Huntsman) Stayner, 12 Jan 1797 - 15 Feb 1873. All of the Stayners are buried at Jackson Prairie Cemetery, Steuben County, Indiana. Stephen and Mary Ann Powers are buried at Powers Cemetery, Steuben County, Indiana. CHILDREN: Mary Stayner, 21 Jul 1855 - 24 Jan 1857, aged 1 year, 6 months and 3 days. Buried at Jackson Prairie Cemetery. Martha (Mattie) Stayner, 14 Aug 1857 - 04 Feb 1864, aged 6 years, 5 months and 21 days. Buried at Jackson Prairie Cemetery. Cordelia (Delia) Stayner, 09 Oct 1860 - 26 Oct 1863, aged 3 years, 17 days. Buried at Jackson Prairie Cemetery. James Oliver Stayner, 29 Oct 1862 - 09 Jan 1939, married Nellie Helen (Davis) Stayner, 11 May 1866 - 15 Apr 1938, daughter of Horace Ephriam Davis and his 2nd wife, Jane (Carroll) Davis. All are buried at Jackson Prairie Cemetery. Lydia Ordelia (Stayner) Purdy, 28 Aug 1866 - 19 Nov 1941, married Howard E. Purdy, 01 Apr 1865 - 06 Jan 1959. Buried at Greenlawn Cemetery, Orland, Steuben County, Indiana. Jeanette (Jennie) Clark Stayner, 27 Mar 1874 - 04 Oct 1874, aged 6 months and 7 days.
