EDWARD J. STAYNER from Steuben Republican, April 19, 1944, pg 2, col 3. EDWARD J. STAYNER Edward Jacob Stayner, 78, died Monday evening at his home in Orland following a long illness. Funeral services will be held a the Congregational church in Orland at two o'clock on Thursday afternoon with burial in the Jackson Prairie cemetery. OBITUARY IN THE POSSESSION OF VIRGINIA (STAYNER) EVANS, Orland, Indiana. Edward Jacob Stayner, son of Jesse and Catherine (Dilse) Stayner, was born in LaGrange County, Indiana, on April 23, 1866, and departed this life at his home near Orland, April 17, 1944, at the age of 77 years, 11 months and 24 days. He spent most of his life in Steuben County, except for a few years spent in Nebraska. He was married to Louisa Hastings on June 6, 1901. She preceded him in death about two years ago. To this union were born seven children: Jesse, who preceded him in death; Lewis of Coldwater, (Mich.); Charley, who is in the service; Laurence, in service in Italy; Albert, with whom he made his home; and Hazel and Louise, who preceded him in death. Others left to mourn their loss are a son-in-law, Fred Hawkins of Mishawaka, and five grandchildren; Mrs. Sarah King of Burlington, Mich., together with other friends and relatives. Funeral services were held in the Congregational Church on Friday with Rev. James H. Durand offciating and burial was in Jackson Prairie Cemetery. ADDITIONAL NOTES: His wife, Louise (Hastings) Stayner was the daughter of Eli and Phobe Hastings. She was born in Branch County, Michigan, on 24 Aug 1884 and died 16 Jun 1942. Children were: Jesse Stayner, 01 Jan 1903 - 1931. Hazel Inez (Stayner) Hawkins, 25 Apr 1905 - 1937. Charles Edward Stayner, 04 Apr 1908 - ? Lewis Earl Stayner, 18 Sep 1910 - 1975. Albert Wilford Stayner, 25 Feb 1914 - June 1998. Laurence Elmer Stayner, 20 Mar 1922 - ? (twin) Louise Ellen Stayner, 20 Mar 1922 - 1931.
