MRS. WILLIAM STAYNER - STEUBEN REPUBLICAN MARCH 12, 1924, Page 6, Column 2

Polly, daughter of Benjamin Q. and Elizabeth Davis, was born in Williams County, Ohio,
August 6, 1856 and departed this life at her home in Angola, March 5, 1924, aged 67 years, 6
months, and 29 days.
She was united in marriage to William M. Stayner, July 4, 1876. To this union were born
three daughters and one son, one daughter, Ellen, preceded the mother in death in 1880.
Many years ago Sister Stayner united with the Methodist Episcopal church at Flint,
Indiana. Later she transferred her membership to Angola Methodist Episcopal church, where she
remained a faithful member until her death. She was a member of the Women's Foreign Missionary
Society and the Martha Division of the Ladies' Aid Society and was superintendent of the Home
department of the Sunday school, when the soul left the weary body and joined that innumerable
host gone on before. Sister Stayner was a good woman, one whose life was full of noble and
unselfish kindness. She was willing in a quiet and unassuming way to do her best for her Master.
She has finished her work, she has passed on, but the good she did and the seed planted will grow
into the fullest harvest. She loved God's people, she loved the church services and often times
attended when her health did not permit. The last time she was permitted to attend Divine
Worship was at the Communion Services in December. She often spoke of this service and of the
blessing that came into her life on that occasion.
She leaves to mourn her husband, the son Glen Stayner of Adrian, Michigan, the daughters,
Mrs. Lillie Harmon [sic], of Angola, and Mrs. Mabel Tomlison [sic] of Dallas, Texas, four
grandchildren, Hugh and Nyle [sic], Jack Harriman, and Polly Elizabeth Tomlinson, two sisters
and one brother, together with other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were conducted Friday afternoon, March 7, at 2:00 by the Rev. H. A. P.
Homer at the Methodist Episcopal church. Burial at Circle Hill cemetery.
