Stout was born Sept. 17, 1827, in Lenawee county, Mich., and died at his residence in Jackson township, Steuben county, Ind., Aug. 7, 1880, aged 52 years, 10 months and 22 days. Mr. Stout moved into this county in 1836 and settled on the farm in Jackson township upon which he resided until his death. On the 30th of December, 1840 (this had to be an error-should be 1849), he was married to Sarah A. Alcott, who still survives. Their union was blessed by eight children, four boys and four girls, all of whom are living. For two years Mr. Stout was afflicted with a cancer of the neck and during the last few months of his life suffered terribly. The funeral took place last week Monday under charge of the Masonic fraternity, of which deceased was an honored member. Rev. W. M. Van Slyke, of Orland, preached the funeral sermon, and the remains were interred in the cemetery at Flint. At a called meeting of Corinthian lodge, No. 285, F. & A.M., held at Flint, Aug. 9, 1880,the following resolutions were adopted. We the undersigned were appointed to draft resolutions relative to the death of our worthy brother, Hervey B. Stout, who departed this life Aug. 7, 1880. WHEREAS: It has pleased Almighty God in his infinite wisdom to remove from our midst by death our brother, Hervey B. Stout: Resolved: That we bow submissively to the will of our divine Creator, who doeth all things after the counsel of his own will, whose ways are past finding out, and who hath said, Dust thou art and unto dust shalt thou return." Resolved: That we cherish the memory of our brother for his many excellent qualities of head and heart, not only as a member of our lodge, but as an upright and liberal citizen in our community. Resolved: That in his death his wife and children have sustained an irreparable loss, and that we render them our heartfelt condolence and sympathy. Resolved: That the members of this lodge wear the usual badge of mourning for thirty days, and a copy of these resolutions be furnished the STEUBEN REPUBLICAN for publication, and one to be entered on the records of this lodge. They are buried at Flint Cemetery, Steuben County, Indiana. Sarah was the daughter of Samuel A. Alcott, 10 Apr 1802 - 24 Apr 1861, and Nancy C. (Collins) Alcott, 25 Mar 1807 - 30 Jun 1888. They are buried at Jackson Prairie Cemetery, Steuben County, Indiana. Hervey was the son of George Stout, 1799 - 15 Apr 1861, and Delight (Bliss) Stout, 24 Sep 1810 - 14 Jan 1853. Delight is buried at Wright Cemetery. George is not listed in the cemetery book. CHILDREN: Ellen Matilda (Stout) Miller, 31 Dec 1850 - 14 May 1927, on 18 Apr 1869, married Thaddeus Kane Miller, 02 Aug 1847 - 04 Oct 1927. They are buried at Jackson Prairie Cemetery. Thaddeus was the son of Samuel S. and Catherine (Kane) Miller. Charles L. Stout, 1853 - 1916, on 24 Mar 1878, married 1st wife, Rebecca A. (Mabie) Stout, 1861, no date of death. Married 2nd, Mary J. (Emerick) Stout, 1859 - 1937. Charles and Mary are buried at Flint Cemetery. Jennie Stout, age 25 on the 1880 United States Census. Orville M. Stout, born 30 Oct 1857. Samuel Austin Stout, 11 Sep 1859 - 16 Aug 1929, on 05 Apr 1892 in LaGrange, Indiana, married Katherine/Kate (Velie) Stout, 20 Oct 1868 - 1951. They are buried at Flint Cemetery. Katherine was the daughter of Tunis and Margaret (Krontz) Velie. www.familysearch.org lists date of death as 28 Jul 1938. Lydia A. (Stout) Hall, 1861 - 1914, on 26 Mar 1884, married McKinnon Hall, 1857 - 1941. They are buried at Block Cemetery, Steuben County, Indiana. Dora (Stout) Parsell, 1865 - 1922, was the 2nd wife of James H. Parsell. They are buried at Block Cemetery. Frank Stout, born 1867, no date of death. SIBLINGS LISTED IN CEMETERY BOOK: Aaron A.
