STEUBEN REPUBLICAN, WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 19, 1904, p.1, c.6 ASA M. TEAL, 18 Aug 1834 - 12 Oct 1904 Asa M. Teal was born in Fairfield county, Ohio, August 18, 1834, and died at Toledo, Oct. 12, 1904, aged 70 years, one month and 24 days. He came with his parents to Salem township, Steuben county, Indiana, in 1836, and has lived here continuously since that time. Jan. 15, 1855, he was united in marriage with Sarah Haining, of Steuben county, Ind., and to the union was born one son, Emery E., now of Toledo, in whose home the father died. After marriage Mr. and Mrs. Teal settled on the farm in Salem which he owned at the time of his death, and together endured the inconveniences and hardships of pioneer life. They united with the U. B. church at Hudson about 1866, and lived faithful and exemplary until death. His wife died May 30, 1893. Uncle Asa, as he was called in the neighborhood, was good and kind and had friends on every side, and will be greatly missed. He leaves a son, sister and two brothers to mourn their loss. Funeral was held at Hudson, Oct. 15, conducted by Rev. Caniel Clark, assisted by Revs. Walters and Hall. Burial at Salem Union cemetery. A. H. Shaffstall, funeral director.
