STEUBEN REPUBLICAN, WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 19, 1900 MARY JANE (SAMS) CONKLE TRUAX, 24 Jan 1823 - 09 Sep 1900 Mrs. Mary Jane Trux was born January 24, 1823, and died Sept. 9, 1900, aged 77 years, 7 months and 15 days. She came to this county with her parents, David and Elizabeth Sams, in August, 1835, and was twice married. First, to William Conkle. To this union were born three girls and two boys. The girls passed to the other world before her. Her second husband, Charles Trux, who had a family of nine children from a baby to young men and women that she helped to raise. She died at the home of her niece, Mrs. Effie Beers, on Jackson Prairie, and was buried by the side of her parents in the Jackson Prairie cemetery. Mary Jane's second husband was Charles Trux/Truax, no dates available. Mary Jane was the daughter of David Sams, 06 Dec 1801 - 16 Apr 1874, and Elizabeth (Baker) Sams, 20 Jun 1800 - 1888. Her siblings listed in her father's biography are: Darius Sams, 30 Jun 1829 - 02 Nov 1915, married Phoebe J. (Lounsbury) Sams, 16 Feb 1832 - 21 Apr 1908, daughter of Nehemiah and Hester Lounsbury. Phoebe was the widow of Darius' brother, Daniel. Sarah Ann (Sams) Carpenter, widow of Alexander Carpenter who died 31 Jan 1873, aged 36 years, 7 months and 24 days. Abdillah B. Sams, died 16 Jun 18__, aged 61 years, 2 months and 19days, married Mary A. (Simmons) Sams who died 04 Apr 1906, aged 67 years, 4 months and 22 days, daughter of Cephas and Eliza (Churchill) Simmons. Amasa Sams, 13 Jan 1835 - 04 Jan 1910, married Matilda (Richner) Sams, 09 Sep 1840 - 31 Aug 1915. Daniel Sams, died 20 Nov 1851, married Phoebe J. (Lounsbury) Sams, 16 Feb 1832 - 21 Apr 1908. Henry B. Sams, 1837 - 27 Jan 1921, married Eunice E. (Thompson) Sams, 1841 - 1919. Peter Sams, 08 Oct 1824 - 21 Oct 1860, aged 36 years and 13 days. Niece at whose home Mary Jane died is Effie (Sams) Beers, 25 Feb 1854 - 11 Jul 1936, married Everington (Evington on marriage license) Beers, 30 Aug 1847 - 23 Jul 1926. All the above are buried at Jackson Prairie Cemetery, Steuben County, Indiana, except Sarah Carpenter, no information on burial place, and Alexander Carpenter who is buried at Old Angola Cemetery, Angola, Steuben County, Indiana.
