STEUBEN REPUBLICAN, WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 10, 1902, page 1, column 6 CHESTER V. TUTTLE, 08 July 1847 - 07 Dec 1902 Chester V. Tuttle, son of Lemmon and Filora Tuttle, was born on the old home farm near Pleasant Lake, Indiana, July 8, 1847, and died at his home in Pleasant Lake, Sunday, Dec. 7, 1902, aged 55 years, 4 months and 29 days. At the age of sixteen he enlisted in the Seventh Indiana cavalry, and served until the close of the war. Since that time he has been actively identified with the business interests of his home town, and won for himself the trust and respect of his fellowmen. As a token of the confidence placed in him, he was elected treasurer of Steuben county, and discharged the duties of the office for two terms with honor to himself and to the satisfaction of the public. He was an honored member of the Masonic and Odd Fellow lodges, and also of the Grand Army. He was a warm friend and genial, upright citizen, and will be greatly missed in the home and community. During the past few months his suffering was intense, but he bore it heroically, expressing confidence in a future life. He leaves a wife, four sons, two sisters and a brother, besides a large number of relatives and friends to mourn their loss. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon in the Baptist church at Pleasant Lake, Elder C. S. Medbury officiating, assisted by Rev. Fry.
