STEUBEN REPUBLICAN, WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 19, 1877, p.?, c.4 PATIENCE POWELL TUTTLE, 23 Mar 1795 - 11 Dec 1877 Mrs. Patience Tuttle We mentioned the death, last week, of old Mrs. Tuttle, of Pleasant Lake, and spoke of her as having been one of the pioneers of this county. We were not at that time, however, in possession of all the data in regard to the deceased. Rev. W. P. Aylsworth, who officiated at the funeral on Wednesday last, has kindly given us the following facts: Mrs. Patience Tuttle, the wife and relict of Vanrensselear Tuttle, late of Pleasant Lake, was born March 23, 1795, and died December 11, 1877, aged 82 years, 8 months and 18 days. Born in the century passed and gone, she was the observer of many important events and changes in our government, having lived through the periods of three great wars in which the country has been involved. She retained her memory of the many interesting events of those stirring times in the past history of the country. And as a pioneer to the "new west" as this part of the world was termed when she came with her family to this State, she has had the experiences common to the early settlers, and lived to see the land blossom and prosper and become the pleasant home of substantial happiness and advancement. She was the mother of a large family of sons and daughters, most of whom were among the early settlers of the county. She leaves surviving her, 8 children, 24 grandchildren and 50 great grandchildren. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Patience (Powell) Tuttle, born in Ohio on 23 Mar 1795, died 11 Dec 1877.
