STEUBEN REPUBLICAN, WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 28, 1898, pg.1, col. 6 & 7 DIED in Angola, Indiana, Tuesday afternoon, Dec. 20, 1898, Russell B. Twichell, aged 18 years, 5 months and 16 days. Deceased was born in Millgrove township, Steuben county, Indiana, and as the only son of Henry and Ida C. Twichell. The father, who was a member of the old 44th and was severely wounded at Shiloh, died when Russell was a little boy, and his only sister, Henrietta, but three months old. In 1891, Mrs. Twichell placed her children in the Soldiers' Orphans' Home at Knightstown, Indiana, from which school they graduated with honor, June 24, 1897. For a time after this date, he attended business college at Toledo, O. He was also a fine musician, playing the saxophone in the band at school and also in the Angola band. He was bright and industrious and had endeared himself to a host of friends in Steuben county. The mother and sister have the sincere sympathy of all our people. He was a member of the Epworth League. Funeral services were held at the M. E. church on Thursday, Rev. F. M. Kemper preaching the sermon. The Angola band escorted the procession to and from the church. Notwithstanding the rain the funeral was largely attended, many coming from the west part of the county. ADDITONAL INFORMATION: Russell B. Twichell, born about 04 Jul 1880 - 20 Dec 1898. He was the son of Henry J. Twichell, 1832 - 1881, and his 2nd wife, Ida M. (Gaspares) Twichell, 1852 - 1904.
