Steuben-Republican October 1919 Jonas Twichell, son of Jonas and Milinda Twichell, was born in Chenango County, New York January 18, 1836, and in June of the same year, his parents brought him to their home on Jackson Prairie, Steuben county, Indiana, where he has spent nearly his whole life. March 5, 1856, Mr. Twichell was united in marriage to Catherine Johnson. Three children came to their home, Catherine Augusta, Eugene and Harvy. Mrs. Twichell died, May 5, 1866, and on October 10, 1867, he was married to Anna Milner. Five children completed this home circle, Victor S., Bertice A., Ben H., Charles E., and Robert E., Mrs. Twichell died January 1, 1917. He leaves five children; 13 grandchildren and 3 great grand-children besides many relatives and friends who will miss his kindly greeting. Mr. Twichell loved his home and all the ties that bound him to it were sacred to him. He believed to do good and bring happiness to those around him was true worship. Every known duty and every financial obligation were promptly and cheerfully met and discharged. His creed was "Honesty and Justice, charity toward all, malice toward none." Eighty-tree years closes the earthly life book of an honest, manly man. Quietly he passed through the mystic door we call death. No one heard the silent call. Like the loosened leaves of roses, one by one our loved ones fall. The funeral was conducted from his late residence last Wednesday morning, Rev. C.C. Mitchell, of Orland, officiating.
