DAVID VANDERHOVEN, 23 JAN 1825 - 10 NOV 1907 DAVID VANDERHOVEN Was born in Rahway, N.J., Jan. 3, 1825; died in Angola, Ind., Nov. 10, 1907, aged 82 years, 9 months and 18 days. He was married to Pheobe Gamble in Rahway, and a few years after they came to Angola with their young children. Edon Hadock, the eldest, was drowned in 1864; William Henry died in 1852; William D., Mrs. Ella Firman and Edmund survive. Miss May Firman, of Jackson Prairie, is the only grandchild. On Jun 16, 1900, the wife and mother died. David Vanderhoven was one of the pioneers who had a very general acquaintance and many friends of his better days who will remember him kindly. Another landmark is gone, reminding us of the transitory nature of our earthly probation. Funeral was held Tuesday at the M. E. church, Rev. Sherman Powell officiating. Interment at Circle Hill. There is no listing for David in the cemetery book, "Cemeteries of Steuben County, Ind., 1900," by Audree Seibel Lewis, page 1864 for Pheobe, but it is noted that she is buried next to David Van Day, born 1825 and died in 1907. The 1880 United States Census, David Vanderhoven, Angola, Steuben County, IN. lists these children: William Vanderhoven, male, age 26, born in Ohio; Edward Vanderhoven, male, age 15, born in Indiana; Ella Vanderhoven, daughter, age 12, born in Indiana.
