OBITUARY - WAITE

        Horace Waite was born in Canada, April 2, 1814, died near Burr Oak,
Mich., April 20, 1867 (should be 1897),  aged 83 years, 18 days.
        At the age of 19, he emigrated to the State of New York, and in 
1836, moved to Indiana, where he took up a homestead in the county of 
Steuben and Lagrange, being one of the very earliest settlers. In 1838 he 
was married to Mary J. Stayner, to whom were born 7 children, 5 of whom 
still survive. In a867 the first wife, Mary J., died, and in 1868 he 
contracted a second matrimonial alliance with Lydia A. Edwards, to whom two 
more children were born.
        In 1883, he moved to his home in Burr Oak, Mich. At the age of 19 he
was converted and united with the Methodist church, with which he remained 
identified until 1870, when he affiliated with the United Brethren, and 
adhered to the Radical division until his death. He was laid to rest in 
Jackson Prairie Cemetery, by the side of his companion. P. W.

        Horace's first wife, Mary J. Stayner, 23 Mar 1818 - 15 May 1867, was
the daughter of John and Sarah (Huntsman) Stayner.

        Sarah Waite, born about 1839.
        Richard Waite, born about 1840.
        Rachel Waite, born about 1841.
        Electa Waite, 19 Apr 1848 - 28 Mar 1923, married James F. McKibben 
on 31 Oct 1867.
        John Waite, born about 1849.
        Aaron Waite, 18 May 1851 - 19 Jan 1922, married May Ella Cobert, 27 
Feb 1860 - 27 Mar 1906. No marriage date available at this time.
        Perry Waite, 1852 - 1915, married Lillian Rosella Doudt.
The 1850 Census, Indiana, LaGrange County, Springfield Township, lists the 
first 5 children with John being 9 months old. The 1860 Census, Indiana, 
LaGrange County, Springfield Township, lists all 7 children. The 1870 
Census, Indiana, LaGrange County, Springfield Township, lists L. A. age 35, 
born in New York, as his wife. Aaron, Perry and a Horace, age 10 months, 
born in August, 1869, listed as a child. Census was taken on 07 Jun 1870.
