Steuben-Republican 14 May 1913 Henry Webb, son of John and Grace Webb was born in Shropshire, England May 6, 1827, and came to America when about three years old, his early home being in the eastern states and Wisconsin. In 1850, he with a company of others crossed the plains for California in pursuit of gold, where he remained about six years. In 1856, he came to Steuben County, Indiana making this his home during the remainder of his life. On June 22,1856, he was united in marriage to Nancy Parker. To this union were born four children, Mrs. T.Y. Somers, Mrs. Silas Bressler, George Webb, and Mrs. Frank Wert, who with his wife, three sisters, one brother, 13 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren survive him. Mr. Webb was a faithful member of the Methodist Church and regularly attended all its services when possible. He held the office of steward for a number of terms and was for many years an honored class leader, loving and serving that old Methodism and today thousands of people regret the disuse of the class meeting- the meeting where perfect confidence existed between man and man and men poured out their souls to one another; where the leader gave his best advice and praise and prayers bless the little circle. We do honor today to Mr. Webb for the place he had in the church, for the many words of encouragement he spoke, and for his loyalty to the people of God; and while his friends will miss him, they are made glad by a life well spent and a work well done. Mr. Webb, passed away Thursday May 8, 1913, at a good age of 86 years 2 days. He said on Tuesday, his birthday "he wished he could go into that sleep of the Lord" and before the day was gone, he was in the sleep from which he could not be roused, and on Thursday, entered into the rest that remained for people of God. Services were conducted by the Rev. John Humfreys of the Congregational Church, in the absence of the pastor of the deceased Rev. Nickerson, who was ill with la grippe at his home. Interment at Circle Hill Cemetery. Submitted by J.A. Childers
