Steuben-Republican 23 January 1878 P.5 clm 9 WEBB--At the residence of his son, Mr. Henry Webb, in Millgrove township, on Tuesday, January 15th, 1878, Mr. John Webb, in the 77th year of his age. John Webb was born at Sommersetshire, England, in the year 1801, where he resided until he was thirty years of age, when he emigrated to America, landing at Quebec. He with his family soon directed their steps to the United States, and after several removals, continually battling with the vicissitudes incident to a new country, finally settled in Steuben County near his late residence, in 1851 near which place he resided most of the time until his death, which took place January 15th, 1878, aged 76 years. Father Webb was converted to Christianity early in life and has continued a consistent member of the M.E. Church ever since, some forty-five years. He is the father of ten children, two of which died in infancy, two others in early life, one of which gave his life for his country at Camp Nevin Kentucky, in the 18th year of his age. The remaining six have all settled within convenient distance, so that his declining years have been soothed by their presence and society, in which he took much pleasure. His last sickness was brief, and he did not wish to recover. For a long time he has been waiting at the river just ready to pass over to the better land. His remains rest in the cemetery near Lake Gage school house. Written by E. Hall Submitted by J.A. Childers
