STEUBEN REPUBLICAN, WEDNESDAY, APRIL 23, 1902, page 1, column 7 WILLIAM WEBB, 17 Sep 1822 - 15 Apr 1902 William Webb was born at Mt. Holly, N. J., Sept. 17, 1822, and died at his son's home in Defiance, Ohio, April 15, 1902, aged 76 years, 5 months and 28 days. Mr. Webb came to Angola in 1886 and made his home here for eleven years, being held in the kindest memory by the people of our community. During the past five years, he has made his home at Plainfield, Ind. Deceased was a man of rugged Christian worth, a staunch adherent of the Baptist church. His influence for good is most beautifully revealed in the fact that all his children and all adult grandchildren are committed to the cause of Christ. There could be no stronger testimony to the genuine worth of his private Christian character. It means much to touch so deeply, those who know most of our daily walk and conversation. Mr. Webb had been in feeble health for several years but had failed in a marked way during recent months. He was able to be about however, and had planned to spend this summer visiting his children. With this thought he went to Defiance, Ohio, early in April, where he was stricken with an acute attack of pleuro penumonia, Sunday, April 13. Four children survive the father whose life work has closed, Mrs. S. M. Allen, of Muncie, Ind.; Mrs. F. E. Burt, of Angola; Mr. E. J. Webb, of Defiance, Ohio, and Mr. Elmer B. Webb, of Plainfield, Ind. His wife died here some 14 years ago. To these bereaved friends, the loving sympathy of our people goes forth, but in this case, sympathy as for those in sorrow, yields much to the spirit of rejoicing, as the holy assurances of a triumphant faith are called to mind. A long life has been worthily lived. A servant of God has been called up higher. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: William Webb, 17 Sep 1822 - 15 Apr 1902, married Maria M.
