Steuben-Republican December 1879 or January 1880 George West died at the residence of his son, H.H. West, in Jackson township, Steuben County, Indiana, December 12th, 1879, aged 78 years. Deceased was born in the state of Maryland near Baltimore in the year 1800. His parents removed from there with him to Richland County, Ohio, when quite young where he grew to manhood and on the 9th day of August 1832, was married to Miss Sarah Sams, ( who now survives him). He became the father of ten children. Five are dead; five still live to mourn with their mother, the loss of a husband and father. He leaves also many friends and neighbors to mourn their loss. In the year 1840, he removed from Richland, County to Fulton County, Ohio and in 1848, he came to his present place of residence, hence he may be numbered among the early settlers of Steuben County. He made a profession of religion in early life and in his last illness expressed strong faith and trust in Christ as his Savior. His funeral services were conducted by Rev. Vanslyke of Flint, Indiana , at which place his remains were laid away to await the resurrection. Submitted by J.A. Childers
