STEUBEN REPUBLICAN, WEDNESDAY, APRIL 20, 1904, page 1, column 5 CALVIN NORTON WILDER, 02 Oct 1832 - 10 Apr 1904 Calvin Norton Wilder was born in Cuba, Allegany county, N.Y., October 2nd, 1832, and resided with his parents on the home farm until he grew to manhood, when he came to Clyde, Sandusky county, Ohio, in the spring of 1855. On July 9, 1856, he was married to Ellen Eliza Shuts, of the same place. To this union were born four children, one dying in infancy. In the fall 1858 they came to Jamestown, Indiana, and settled on the farm which was their home for many years. Having grown tired of life on the farm, in the spring of 1886 they moved to Fremont, Ind., where May 28th, 1893, they met with their first great loss, in the death of their second daughter, Laura Bell. On July 16th, 1896, the one who shared with him life's joys and sorrow, for so many years, was called home and he returned to the old homestead to reside with his daughter, Mrs. Nellie Sprague. On April 10th, 1899, he was married to Mrs. Mary Shutts. After a year spent in Fremont they moved to the farm which has since been his home and where he died April 10th, 1904, aged 71 years, 6 months and 9 days. He leaves a wife and two daughters, Mrs. Mira S. Brown and Mrs. Nellie Sprague and five grandchildren to henceforth travel lifes pathway without his kind and cheerful words and willing hands, always ready to do for those he loved. Two brothers are left, both in very poor health. The funeral occurred Wednesday, April 15th, Rev. Long, of Orland, Officiating. Calvin was the son of Kendal and Laura Sarah (Stephens) Wilder. Cortland married 2nd on 13 Apr 1899, Mary M. (Collins) Shutts, 28 Nov 1844 - 28 Dec 1923, daughter of Samuel and Betsey (Bush) Collins. Mary was the widow of Herman C. Shutts, 06 Jun 1839 - 27 Apr 1897 and they are buried at Jamestown Cemetery. CHILDREN: Myra Susan (Wilder) Brown, 27 Feb 1860 - 04 Jul 1939, on 03 Jan 1882, married Frank Montalm Brown, 03 Jan 1858 - 01 Mar 1920, son of Ezekiel Brown, 1830 - 1909, and Mary Charlotte (Barry) Brown, 1834 - 1896. They are all buried at Jamestown Cemetery. (Wilder) Sprague, 02 Nov 1873 - 18 Feb 1952, on 14 Mar 1895, married Bert P. Sprague, 1868 - 1945, buried at Jamestown Cemetery.
