EDSON A. WILDER 16 Apr 1845-09 Apr 1927 In the death of Edson A. Wilder, Orland is losing one of its oldest citizens, he having spent his entire life in the community. He was born April 16, 1845, on the old homestead, two miles east of Orland. This land was originally taken by his grandfather, William Wilder, as a grant from the government. He received all the educational advantages afforded here at that time and later attended Albion College. He married Julia Edgar Richards, of Sturgis, Mich., January 23, 1873. To them were born four children, Nellie, Harry, Bertha and Marian. For thirty years he conducted a hardware business in Orland and together with Mr. Lorenzo Taylor started the first telephone system in Steuben County which developed into a large county system. He passed away after a short illness, on April 9, 1927, within one week of his eighty-second birthday. Short burial services were held at his home, conducted by Rev. E. W. Gray. NOTE: The above information was found in Book 322 in the black notebook collection, #1 through #22, compiled by Audree Siebel Lewis, located at the Steuben County Library, Angola, Indiana.
