STEUBEN REPUBLICAN, WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 1, 1902, page 1, column 6 FRANK WOODFORD, 10 Apr 1856 - 21 Sep 1902 Frank Woodford was born in Salem Center, Steuben county, Ind., April 10, 1856, being the youngest but one of a family of 11 children, and died at his home in Salem, Sunday forenoon, Sept. 21, 1902, aged 46 years, 5 months and 11 days. He was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Orson Woodford, deceased, and has always lived in and around Salem. Sept. 13, 1879, he was married to Ida E. Ammerman, daughter of Peter Ammerman, also deceased. Four children blessed this union, 3 girls, Alma M. (now Mrs. Henney), Ethel C., Ulah O. and Dawson D., the only son, all of which survive him and were present at the funeral. For the past few years his occupation has been mostly that of threshing engineer, and on Tuesday, Sept. 16, while in that capacity over in DeKalb county, he complained of not feeling well and was obliged to return home. It was soon discovered by our home doctor that the seat of trouble was appendicitis and that an early operation was necessary, which took place Saturday forenoon by Dr. Stemans, of Ft. Wayne, but too late as he died Sunday forenoon. At the autopsy which took place a few hours before the funeral, the fact was soon revealed that nothing but an over ruling power could possibly have saved his life. He was a member of the K. of P. order here in good standing, and had many warm friends. The funeral took place Tuesday, Sept. 23, at the M. E. church, conducted by Rev. Ingles, of Corunna, who delivered a very able discourse from Matthew, 24th chapter and 44th verse. The remains were conveyed to the North cemetery for interment. The sorrowing mother and children very highly appreciate the kindness of neighbors during their recent sickness and bereavement.
