STEUBEN REPUBLICAN, WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 4, 1901, page 1, column 7 MARTHA CERINTHA (WELCH) BODLEY WOODFORD, 26 Mar 1821 - 17 Nov 1901 Martha Cerintha Welch was born in Ravenna, Portage Co., Ohio, March 26, 1821, and moved with her parents to Plymouth, Ohio, at the age of sixteen, spending her young womanhood there. She was married to Jesse Bodley in 1842. After six years of happy wedded life he passed away. Two years after the death of her husband she married Orson Woodford in 1850, at Plymouth, Ohio, he having five boys, the eldest thirteen years of age and the youngest but two. They were reared with her children as one family by one mother. After a brief residence there they moved to Steuben Co., Ind., in the spring of 1853, where they resided until Mr. Woodford's death in 1882. Since then she has made her home with her daughter, Mrs. W. T. Kimsey, of Gentry, Ark, where she died Nov. 17, 1901, aged 80 years, 7 months and 22 days. A short religious service was held at the home of Mr. Kimsey, after which he departed on his sad journey with her remains for her old home at Salem Center, Indiana, arriving here at 10:30 o'clock, Tuesday evening. The funeral services were held at the Block church, Wednesday morning at 10 o'clock, conducted by Rev. Neal. She was laid to rest by the side of her husband and three children who have gone before. Four of the children survive her, two of the first and two of the second family. George W., of South Dakota, and J. Calvin, of Salem Center; Mrs. Emma Kimsey, of Gentry, Ark., and Frank of Salem Center. She became a christian in early life. Soon after her conversion she united with the Presbyterian church at Plymouth and after taking up her home in the West she placed her letter in the Congregational church at Gentry, there being no Presbyterian church in that place. She was a consistent member until the time of her death. She filled all the relations of life with earnest, christian fidelity. She was an affectionate wife, a tender mother, a loving sister, a true friend and a kind neighbor. On 29 Apr 1850, Martha became the 2nd wife of Orson Woodford, 06 Jan 1805 - Jul 1882, son of James and Urania Woodford. His 1st wife, Jane L. (North) Woodford, died 13 Sep 1849, at Plymouth, Ohio, aged 38 years, 7 months and 12 days. Martha and Orson are buried at Block Cemetery, Steuben County, Indiana. Children of Orson and Jane, noted by date of birth which is not available for all the children: Bryam D. Woodford, 06 Oct 1843 - 25 Mar 1865, buried at Block Cemetery. James Hance Woodford, 16 Jan 1847 - 20 Feb 1897, married Sarah Amanda (Dole) Woodford, 19 Feb 1854 - 31 Jul 1891, buried at Block Cemetery. John Calvin Woodford, 1841 - 1918, married Josephine Augusta (Davis) Woodford, Apr 1857 - 1941, aged 83 years, 9 months and 4 days, buried at Block Cemetery.
