My great-grand father, Francis Marion HOWE was born in Stueben County in 1850, his parents, Jerome HOWE and Margaret SWIGOR were married there on June 18, 1845. Margaret may have had a sister, Catherine who married a Lyman PIERSON and a brother Isaiah SWIGOR who married a Lovinia ALDERMON. Margaret is buried here in Michigan, but Jerome may be buried there in Steuben County. Any information you could give me on these surnames would be a big help.

I am descended from Beach Nelson BUNDY (b. 18 Mar 1805, Huntington Conn., D. 26 June 1874 in Vernon Co. Wisc.). Beach BUNDY moved from Conn. to N.Y. where he lived for some time. There he married, 3 June 1826, Emily Ann WISEL (b. 1805 N.Y., d. 1894), and their son Russell SMITH (my gg-grandfrather) was born 14 Aug. 1835. At some point after that a quite remarkable migration took place. Apparently the BUNDYs (including Beach's father, Asahel) migrated, along with the families READ, WISEL (WISWELL), HENRY, HALE, and CADE as follows: N.Y. > Ind (Steuben Co.) > Mi. > Wisc. I am not sure if all of the families made all of these moves, but I have seen some evidence of READ, HENRY, and BUNDY in Wisc. I expect that some of the families (or family members) may have remained in the Steuben Co. area.

Searching for any SAMS who may have originally been in Brown Co., OH and I saw with interest the marriages of two women, Mary Lane SAMS and Rosella SAMS, 1844 and 1847 respectively, in your county from the Indiana Marriages Through 1850. I know this is a long shot but Jonathan SAMS had 6 daughters in the 1830 census and I have only been able to find 3 of them. They were born in the 1820's. My Jane Bella SAMS was the line I was working on and she was in Montgomery Co. living with another family and got married in 1849. Apparently when the father died, the girls went to live with other families(?) even though their mother remarried and the girls didn't show up in the 1840 census.
