I am trying to verify that Charlotte Harpham [1844 Lincolnshire, England - 1892 Steuben Co., IN] who m. Jonathan Menges [1844 Wayne Co., OH - 1911 Greenville, MI] was the d/o John & Margaret Gillanders Harpham.

Charlotte and Jonathan were married 4 Oct 1868 in Steuben Co., IN and had 4 children that I know of:  Viola b. abt1870, Charley b. abt 1874, Mary b. abt 1878, Sidena Apr. 1880 - 1959 West Columbia, TX.  Sidena m. William M. Harper [1872-1932 TX] 3 daughters were born to this couple: Charlotte, Ruth, and Florene.  Charlotte m. an unnamed Carleton; Ruth m. John McCann, and Florene m. Joe Smith.  All lived in Texas.  It is believed that all 3 of them are deceased.

Any information on this family would be greatly appreciated and I would like to see if I could not connect Charlotte to John & Margaret Gillanders Harpham.

HARPHAM:  Charlotte Harpham m. Jonathan Menges. Today when I was  viewing the 1860 IN census, Steuben Co., Steuben Twp. I came across two families  of HARPHAMs:
457  468  Joseph  Harpham              22 M        Farmer   350   320  England
Lydia Harpham                 18  F        Keeping  house        Indiana
Elizabeth   Harpham           59  F       Keeping  house        England
                Mary  Harpham                 19  F                                       England
                Charlotte   Harpham          15  F                                       England
459 469   John  Harpham                  50  M       Farmer   1000  500    England
Margaret   Harpham          40  F        Keepinghouse             Ireland
Martha   Harpham              15 F        housework                  Indiana
                Joseph   Harpham              10  M                                         Indiana
                James J.   Hrapham              6 M                                          Indiana
                Samuel  Harpham                 4  M                                         Indiana
                Margaret A. Harpham        9/12  F                                        Indiana
This makes me believe that there were 2 families of HARPHAMs in Steuben  Co., IN.  Does anyone have any supporting evidence of this  possibility?
Charlotte Harpham & Jonathan Menges had the following children:

Descendants of Jonathan Menges

1 Jonathan Menges b: June 11, 1844 in Wayne Co., OH d: March 02, 1911 in  Greenville, MI

.. +Charlotte Harpham b: July 18, 1844 in Lincolnshire, England m: October  04, 1868 in Steuben Co., IN d: April 17, 1892 in Steuben Co., IN

......... 2 Viola Menges b: Abt. 1870 in IN

............. +Charles Roseborough m: June 14, 1891 in Steuben Co., IN

......... 2 Charles Menges b: Abt. 1874 in IN

......... 2 Mary Menges b: Abt. 1876 in IN

......... 2 Sidena L. Menges b: April 1880 in IN d: 1959 in West Columbia,  Brazoria Co., TX

............. +William M. Harper b: 1872 m: Abt. 1900 d: 1932 in West  Columbia, Brazoria Co., TX

.................... 3 Charlotte Harper b: August 18, 1903 d: January 22,  1988

........................ +Unnamed Carleton

.................... 3 Ruth Harper b: December 09, 1905 d: November 1982

........................ +John McCann b: May 19, 1902 d: March 1975

.................... 3 Florene Harper

........................ +Joe Smith

Any help in filling out this line would be appreciated.  I am trying to  fill in that William Harpham d. 7 May 1860 may have been Charlotte's  father.   I find no listing for Elizabeth Harpham above in the  Cemeteries of Steuben Co., IN 1990, she could have remarried if indeed she were  married to William who died before the 1860 census.

Other HARPHAMs married into the Wolf family and these are connected to John  & Margaret Gillander Harpham, the 2nd family listed above.  Looking  forward to some response from those who view the Steuben Co. usgenweb page.

HARPHAM:
Until recently, I thought that Charlotte Harpham w/o Jonathan Menges was a daughter of John & Margaret Gillanders Harpham as she was born in Lincolnshire, England.  However, I have found her this in regards to her at the Carnegie Library in Angola, IN:

Menges, Charlotte Harpham
b. Lincolnshire, England, came to US with parents in 1852.
d. April 17, 1892 ae 47 y 9m 29 d
m. Jonathan Menges Oct. 3, 1868
Children: (4) 1b, 3g

The John Harpham's were in the USA prior to 1852 according to other information that I have.

Here is an outline descendant tree for William Harpham, who I believe to
be her father:
Descendants of William Harpham?
1 William Harpham?
... +Elizabeth b: Abt. 1801 in England
.......... 2 Charlotte Harpham b: July 18, 1844 in Lincolnshire, England
d: April 17, 1892 in Steuben Co., IN

I'm researching my maternal gr.-gr.-grandfather, Solomon Smith.  He was born ca. 1840 in Elkhart, IN according to the info I have.  He married Sarah Hamlin, daughter of Elias and Mary Ann Butler Hamlin, ca. 1860 in IN, then joined up as a private in Company C, 4th Cavalry Regiment of the Union Army in Indiana on 29 Jul 1862, giving his residence as Warsaw, IN..  He was discharged from the army on 22 May 1865.  He also served in the Mexican War, but I have no info on that yet.

I know that sometime after his discharge the family was in Webster Co., NE, as that is where my gr.-grandfather, Frank Elias Smith was born in 1871.  Solomon and Sarah reportedly had 16 children, but only three survived to adulthood.

Sometime later, the families moved to KS, as Solomon and Sarah's mother, Mary A. Butler (d. 1901)are buried in Burr Oak, Jewell Co., KS.  There is a marker for Solomon, but none for Sarah; we know she's buried there, but where?

If anyone knows anything of these families in Indiana, I would appreciate your help. Thanks!

Hamilton, Indiana  -  father of Harriet, Emma, Mary and George Crandall"

The "Grandfather Crandall" is George Martin Crandall, our ancestor.  We would like to give  Eliza and William Crandall descendants copies of this photo.  George Martin (b 1816) and William Almus (b 1821) Crandall were born in NY - hopefully, one of their descendants will know where in NY.  Another sib, Marinda Crandall, married Lyman Van Tassell - and she said that her father was Ashland Crandell.  We seek confirmation of that name.

I am searching for information on William W. Huffman, born in  Pleasant Lake in 1858.  Don't know his parents names or his exact  relationship to me (my mother was Gladys Irene Huffman, her father was Melvia  Huffman and his father was Asa Huffman).  He was married to Frances (don't  know her maiden name) . W.W. Huffman moved from P. Lake in his early twenties  and ended up in Anderson IN where he died 12/27/1922.  He was referred to  as Colonel Huffman, but I suspect that was an honorary title bestowed upon him  when established the Lexington Herald in Lexington, Kentucky.  He  worked as campaign manager for Col. W. T. Durbin of Anderson and when he was  elected Governor, Huffman was appointed Custodian of the State House.  He  later was appointed Secretary of the state Senate where he served for two  sessions.
He apparently was instrumental in establishing the American  Playground Device Company in Terre Haute and organized a branch of the company  in  Anderson.
Also, he was survived by a brother, Roy.  I haven't been  able to find any info on Roy, either.
This little bit of information came from an old obituary found  in my grandmother Minnie Huffman's belongings and from the ex-owner of the  American Playground Company who I recently contacted.
Any information you can provide me will be greatly  appreciated.
