Records secured have recorded my grandfather as being buried in
the South Bend City Cemetery. The cemetery
is next to a railroad track.
The grandchildren of my grandfather paid for
Anthony-Kay Memorials to place a tombstone on his plot several
years ago. I have visited the burial place and know where he
is buried.
Otto
GRUNOW born Jan 17 1861 in Magdeburg, Germany
died
Feb. 6, 1910 of a stroke - survived by wife, Sophie, and 4 living children.
His grave is under a large tree near the railroad tracks, plot 68,
near the tombstone of LEASCH.
Sophie Grunow's mother, Mrs. Minnie Schucart,
followed the Grunow family to the U. S. in 1888. She had remarried
in Germany bringing three sons with her. I found the newspaper article in
the Friday edition of the South Bend Weekly, dated 6 April 1889, but have never
found where Minnie is buried. Minnie was buried from St. Paul's Lutheran
Church but her
burial is NOT listed in church records. I have viewed the
church records many times as the GRUNOW family were
members there when arriving in the U. S. in 1881. If you
ever find Minnie Schucart's grave site, PLEASE let me know.
Several years ago, I obtained cemetery records
from a South Bend bank and the cemetery caretaker, (Mr. Peters.
Mrs. Peter's mother lived next door to my grandparents when she
was a child!) From these records we were able
to have a tombstone placed on my grandfather's grave.
I would appreciate the facts being placed on
the proper web site.
Thank you for reading and placing the information on the web
site---
