Robert Edison Abbott

Robert Edison Abbott, 75, of South Hickory Road, South Bend, Ind., passed away following an illness on Saturday, May 25, in Hospice House of South Bend. Robert was born on Oct. 2, 1926, in Elk-hart, Ind., as the son of the late Edison and Amanda (Shaffer) Abbott.

 

On Nov. 22, 1947, in First Methodist Church, South Bend, Robert married Irene Sossoman, who survives. He is also survived by two daughters, Carolyn (James) Shell of Logansport, Ind., and Patricia (Terry) Richard of Bremen, Ind.; three grandchildren, Kevin (Angel) Shell of Colorado Springs, Colo., Sarah (Todd) Cravens of Logansport and Todd Richard of Bremen; and by one great-granddaughter, Aurora Cravens of Logansport.

 

Robert was employed by Uniroyal in Mishawaka, Ind., as a mold maker for 42 years before retiring in 1986. He was a member of Moose Club 599 in Elkhart, was a lifetime member of VFW Post 360 Mishawaka and the D.A.V. in Elkhart, and was a World War II Army veteran.

 

Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, May 29, in the Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. 8th Street, Mishawaka. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, May 30, in the funeral home, with Rev. Erv. Mize officiating. Burial will follow at Olive Cemetery, Elkhart, where military rites will be performed by VFW Post 360, Mishawaka. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions in Robert's name be made to Hospice of St. Joseph County, 111 Sunnybrook Court, South Bend, IN 46637.
