SOUTH BEND - Bert E. Adams, 87, of Hamilton Grove Retirement Community, New Carlisle, formerly of South Bend, died of natural causes at 12:40 p.m. Monday in LaPorte Hospital. Mr. Adams was employed by Studebaker Corp. for more than 30 years and retired in 1988 from Bartholmew's Inc.

He was born Oct. 25, 1906, in Herrin, Ill., and lived in South Bend most of his life, coming from Illinois. In 1925, in Herrin, he married Mary Oldani. She died Dec. 18, 1981. He is survived by a son, Robert J. of South Bend; six grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. He was a member of Bethel Chapel, LaPorte.

Services will be at 4 p.m. Wednesday in Forest G. Hay Funeral Home, 1201 S. Michigan St. Burial will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola. Friends may call one hour before services on Wednesday in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the church building fund.
