Joyce A. Akridge

MISHAWAKA - Joyce A. Akridge, 69, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on the morning of Thursday, April 3 in Mishawaka. Joyce was born on July 29, 1938 in Louisville Kentucky as the daughter of James and Margaret (Rapp) Tinsley. She was preceded in death by her parents and a grandson, David Michael Akridge on January 24, 1987.

 

On January 10, 1964 she married Walter O. Akridge who preceded her in death in 1972. Surviving Joyce are a daughter, Teresa Brown of Mishawaka, two sons, Michael (Juanita) Akridge of Glen Burnie, MD and Russell Akridge of Mishawaka; 12 grandchildren, Dannielle, Joseph, and Valerie Akridge, Raymond Bryan, James Brown Jr., David and Kristen Akridge, Jeffrey Bryan, Jesse Brown, Tiffany and Courtney Akridge and Crystal Bierman; and two great grandchildren, Shawn Akridge and E'Anya Raggs. Joyce was a Registered Nurse and worked for Indiana State Prison before she retired. She moved to Michiana in 1968 coming from Warsaw. She was a member of St. Matthews Cathedral, South Bend, Legion of Mary at St. Monica's and the Forever Learning Institute. Family and friends may visit on Sunday, April 6th from 2 to 6 p.m. in Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. 8th Street, Mishawaka.

 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, April 7, in St. Matthew Cathedral, South Bend with Rev. Michael Heintz officiating. Burial will follow in Westlawn Cemetery, North Liberty. Memorial contributions can be made in Joyce's name to Forever Learning Institute, 54191 Ironwood Rd., South Bend, IN 46635.
