Ray Lee Aldridge

SOUTH BEND, IN — Ray Lee Aldridge, 42, of Anderson Avenue, passed away following an illness at 5:45 a.m. Wednesday, March 5, in the Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center. Lee was employed as the administrator of the development department at the University of Notre Dame for 10 years up until his illness forced him to take a leave in 2001. He was born in Fayetteville, Ala., on Feb. 4, 1961, to Jay and Edith (Bankston) Aldridge. He came to South Bend in 1991 from Houston, Texas.

 

He is survived by his life partner, Greg Simpson of South Bend; his father, Jay Aldridge of Carbonhill, Ala.; and by two brothers, Jed Aldridge of Las Vegas, Nev., and Ben (Mary) Aldridge of Carbonhill.

Services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 8, in the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, Fayette County, Ala., with burial following at the adjoining church cemetery. Friends called from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday in the Kilgore-Green Funeral Home, Jasper, Ala. Arrangements in South Bend were handled by Morning Star Funerals & Cremations, 21275 W. Cleveland near Portage.

 

Mr. Aldridge was 1983 graduate of the University of Alabama, Birmingham, with a BS degree. He was an accomplished piano player and was a performer in many local area productions with "The Company" theatrical company based in Mishawaka, Ind. He was a child actor having been a regular special guest star on the Country Boy Eddy TV show in Birmingham.
