Margaret L. Altice

Margaret L. Altice, 90, of South Bend, passed away at 7:50 a.m. Wednesday, April 5, in Hospice House. Mrs. Altice was born on August 23, 1915, in South Bend to Ethel (Simon) and Anton Winkler. She had been employed at Bendix for 14 years and at the University of Notre Dame for seven years. She was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church and the D.F.V. German Club Ladies Auxiliary.

 

On June 12, 1937, in South Bend she married John Altice. He died on March 18, 2003. Margaret was also preceded in death by three sisters, Rose Strebinger, Ethel Haas, and Mary Scheu; a brother, Anthony Winkler; and two nephews, Herman Haas and Carl Strebinger. Surviving are a sister-in-law, Esther Winkler of Illinois; two nieces, Nancy (Ted) Piechocki of South Bend and Marilyn Haas (Don) Chamberlain of St. Charles, MO; two nephews, Anthony (Joann) Winkler of Illinois and John (Kathy) Scheu of South Bend; and several grand, great-grand and great-great-grand nephews and nieces.

 

Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. Saturday April 8, in the Zahoran Funeral Home, 1826 S. Kemble Avenue. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery. Family and friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today in the funeral home, where a rosary will be recited at 5 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to The Center for Hospice and Palliative Care, 111 Sunnybrook Court, South Bend, Ind. 46637.
