SOUTH BEND - Martin C. ''Marty'' Altman, 87, area restaurateur and longtime East Washington Street, South Bend, Ind., resident, died on Monday, May 18, following a lengthy illness. Marty was born in Toledo, Ohio, on Sept. 23, 1910.

 

He came to South Bend in 1935. Marty's business interests included restaurant ownership, photography and graphic arts. Most recently he was the proprietor of Marty's Ramble Inn, Roseland, Ind. He married Sara Goldberg of South Bend on June 7, 1936. She survives.

He is also survived by a sister, Belle Slesh of California; a son, Richard Altman of Tempe, Ariz.; daughters, Carin Solloway of South Bend and Cathy Rodrigues of Lincolnshire, Ill.; and by grandchildren: Cyndi, age 13; Ryan, age 11; Jarrett, age 9; and Jenna, age 6. Marty was an active member of Sinai Synagogue, a member of the B'Nai B'rith Men's Organization, and was a 32nd Degree Mason.

 

Services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. today at the Chapel at Hebrew Orthodox Cemetery, Mishawaka, Ind. There will be no visitation. Arrangements are through the Forest G. Hay Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to Sinai Synagogue.
