Esther L. Annis, 89, of 63723 Thorn
Road, North Liberty, Ind., passed away after an extended illness
at 4:50 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 20, in Miller's Merry Manor,
Walkerton, Ind. She retired in 1971 as a cook for the Greene
Township School for many years. She was born in North Liberty on
Nov. 15, 1908, living here a lifetime.
She was married on April 14, 1929, as Esther
L. Whitmer, to William C. Annis, who survives. She is also
survived by four daughters, Linda Paul and Nancy Niespodziany,
both of North Liberty, Susan Leonard of Niles, Mich., and
Marilyn Kuspa of Mishawaka, Ind.; two sons, Dwight of
North Liberty and Michael of Walkerton; a sister, Beulah Chabera,
and a brother, Robert Whitmer, both of South Bend; and by 19
grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in
death by a daughter, Beverly Joan; a great-grandson; and by two
brothers, Harry and Ray Whitmer. She was a past matron of the
Order of Eastern Star 290 in North Liberty.
Services will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday in
the North Liberty Church of Christ, officiated by Rev. Charles
Richmond. Burial will be in Westlawn Cemetery. Friends may call
after 2 p.m. today at the A.M. Manuel Funeral Home. Memorial
contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
