Mary A. Applegate

Mary A. Applegate, 80, of Tanglewood Lane, Mishawaka, Ind., formerly of York Road, South Bend, Ind., died following an illness at 10:22 a.m. on Sunday, Aug. 29, in her residence. Mrs. Applegate was born on Dec. 21, 1918, in South Bend, to Forrest H. and Edna May (Denniston) Robinson, and was a lifetime area resident.

 

On July 4, 1937, in South Bend, as Mary A. Robinson, she married Ralph M. Applegate, who preceded her in death on Sept. 25, 1998. She was also preceded in death by her parents and four brothers. She is survived by a sister, Betty Lou Wood of Spring Valley, Calif.; three nieces, Sue Ann (Norbert) Cicsiolka of New Carlisle, Ind., Barbara Robinson of Mishawaka and Andrea of California; and by five nephews, Jon (Joyce) Robinson and Russell (Betty) Robinson, both of Mishawaka, David (Lisa) Robinson of Cincinnati, Ohio, Dr. Dale Applegate of LaPorte, Ind., and Ronald Applegate of Rolling Prairie, Ind.

 

Mrs. Applegate retired from the former Tower Federal Savings and Loan as a head teller after more than 23 years service. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of South Bend and the Order of Eastern Star Chapter 2. She was also a volunteer at the Budget Corner, and thoroughly enjoyed bowling with friends and traveling.

 

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 1, in the Welsheimer Funeral Home, 521 N. William Street, with Dr. Ellwood K. Smith officiating. Entombment will follow in Riverview Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today in the funeral home.
