Will Aretz

Will Aretz, 95, of West McGregor Road, South Bend, died at 7:05 p.m. Monday, July 29 in the St. Joseph Medical Center.

 

He was born on March 27, 1901 in Dusseldorf, Germany, and had lived in South Bend for over 50 years coming from New York. In Germany, he was married to Rosel Stein who died in 1976.

In 1978, in South Bend, he married Olga Capriles who survives. Also surviving are his son, Gary Aretz of South Bend, and his two grandchildren, Edward Aretz of New York, and Susan Farhi of New Jersey.

 

It is believed that he was the oldest graduate of Indiana University at South Bend, graduating in 1990, at age 90, with a degree in general studies. On his 90th birthday, he was awarded a honory masters degree from Indiana University at South Bend. He had said that he believed education to be his finest accomplishment.

 

He was a member of Hebrew Orthodox Congregation. Services will be at 4 p.m. today in the Forest G. Hay Funeral Home, 435 S. Ironwood. Interment will follow in Hebrew Orthodox Cemetery, Mishawaka, Ind.
