Susan Irene Arndt

Susan Irene Arndt, a former Mishawaka resident, died Wednesday, November 14, 2001, in Sarasota, Fla.

 

She was born on December 8, 1906, in Warren, Indiana, to Charles Knight and Daisie Farr Knight.

 

She graduated in 1929 from Indiana University with a B.S. degree in Business. She married Russell H. Arndt on March 30, 1935. She was a bookkeeper, a secretary, and a teacher. She taught business education and journalism for 22 years in high school She was a teacher for Mishawaka High School (1933-36) She stopped teaching at that time because married women were not allowed to teach. Madison Township High School (1950-1958), Penn High School (1958-1970), High School Journalism Institute at Indiana University for 15 years and Indiana University South Bend extension from 1945-1953. She retired in 1970.

 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Russell who died in March 1966; and four brothers and a sister.

 

She is survived by her daughter, Susan Arndt of Sarasota, Fla.; her brother, V.C. Knight of Jackson, MI; her sister, Marjorie Gard of Warren, IN; and many loving nieces and nephews, and cherished friends.

 

She was a 58 year member of the First Presbyterian Church of Mishawaka. She was a member of the Phi Mu National Collegiate Sorority, Delta Kappa Gamma education honorary and the P.E.O. sisterhood.

 

Visitation will be at the Bubb Funeral Chapel in Mishawaka. Tuesday, November 20, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Services will be held at the First Presbyterian Church on Wednesday, November 21, at 11 a.m.

 

Burial will be in the Chapel Hill Memorial Cemetery.

 

Memorials may be sent to the First Presbyterian Church, Mishawaka, Indiana; or a favorite charity.
