Edward Artusi

Mishawaka - Edward Artusi, 60, assistant city street commissioner and a former assistant chief of the Mishawaka Fire Department, died at 2:05 a.m. today in St. Joseph Hospital, where he was taken by police in the city ambulance after suffering an apparent heart attack in his home at 1024 S. Main St.

 

He was born in Prattlen, Switzerland on Feb. 20, 1913, and had resided in Mishawaka for the past 50 years. He served for 25 years with the Mishawaka Fire Department and as assistant chief from 1956 to 1960. He retired from the department in 1966, and was assistant to Commissioner Americo Brioli at the time of his death.

 

He married Delores V. Linson in Mishawaka on Sept. 22, 1934 and she survives in addition to two daughters, Mrs. Richard Rejer of Indianapolis and Mrs. John A. Cochran of Mishawawa; his mother, Mrs. Adele Artusi of Mishawaka; four brothers, Ray R. and Libero Artusi of Mishawaka, Guido Artusi of Rochester, Ind., and Rene Artusi of Wyatt; three sister, Mrs. Anna Young and Mrs. Louise Miller of Mishawaka and Mrs. Alice McCrea of New Haven, Ind.; and five grandchildren.

 

Friends may call after 7 p.m. today in the DeVos Funeral Chapel, where services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday. Rev. Stephen Cvaniga, pastor of St. Bavo’s Catholic Church will officiate and burial will be in Fairview Cemetery.  The rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. in the funeral home.

 

Members of the Mishawaka Firefighters Auxiliary will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the Central Fire Station to depart for the funeral home as a group. He was a member of the DeAmicis Club, the Mishawaka Firefighters Assn. and the Good Fellows Club of Mishawaka.
