James H. Avrett

July 20, 1922 - Nov. 11, 1998

James H. Avrett, 76, of Orchard Heights Drive, South Bend, Ind., died at 4:40 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 11, in Regency Place of South Bend.

He was born on July 20, 1922, in Augusta, Ga. He was married to Maxine Cope for over 40 years. Maxine died on March 7, 1997.

Mr. Avrett is survived by a daughter, Becky (Terry) Wiseman of South Bend; two sons, James H. (Lynne) Avrett of South Bend and Larry (Lisa) Avrett of Granger, Ind.; seven grandchildren, Chris, Brad, Rikki, Ryan and Blake Avrett, and Kristy and K.C. Wiseman; and by his two brothers, Milton Milus Avrett of Augusta, Ga., and William Avrett of North Augusta, S.C.

Mr. Avrett was the general agent of ''James H. Avrett Associates'' for Mutual of Omaha. He was a member of the First Christian Church of South Bend, the South Bend Country Club, was past president of the South Bend Kiwanis Club, a member of the General Agents & Managers Association in South Bend, and was a graduate of Nebraska Wesleyan College. He was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II.

Services will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday in the First Christian Church of South Bend, with Dr. William J. Wassner officiating. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger.

Friends may call from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday in the Forest G. Hay Funeral Home, 435 S. Ironwood, and from one hour prior to services on Saturday in the church.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or to the church.
