Louis R. Bagarus

Louis R. Bagarus, 80, of Glen Street, passed away at 2:30 AM Saturday, February 9, 2002 at St. Joseph Medical Center, South Bend. Mr. Bagarus retired from St. Mary of the Assumption Church after 14 years. He also worked for Studebakers for 23 years prior to St. Marys. Mr. Bagarus was born on October 4, 1921 in South Bend to Stephen Bagarus and Rose Daros. He was a US Army veteran and received both the Bronze Star and Purple Heart for meritorious achievement in combat. Mr. Bagarus was a past member of the South Bend American Legion and also DAV.

 

On May 14, 1955 he married Nancy Haag at St. Joseph's Church in South Bend, Mrs. Bagarus survives. Mr. Bagarus was preceded in death by a brother Stephen, a sister Mrs. Ella Barkovich, and by a son-in-law Carl Simko who died in August last year. Survivors include a son, Douglas (Tami) Bagarus of Mishawaka, a daughter Deborah Simko of Niles, Mi., and two grandchildren Landon and Rwlin Bagarus. Also surviving are 2 sisters Mrs. Rose Zwierzynski of Mishawaka and Mrs. Julie Dobrzykowski of South Bend, and 2 brothers Julius and Richard Bagarus of South Bend.

 

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 12, 2002 in St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church. Cremation will follow the service. Family and friends may call from 3:00 - 8:00 Monday in the Zahoran Funeral Home, 1826 S. Kemble Avenue. Memorial contributions can be made to Hospice of St. Joseph County.
