Richard G. Bagarus

Richard G. Bagarus, 73, of South Bend, passed away at 1:22 a.m. Wednesday, March 29, in Ironwood Health & Rehab Center after a courageous battle with cancer. Mr. Bagarus retired from Norwest Bank where he had been employed for 29 years. Richard served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He was born on March 12, 1933, in South Bend, to Istvan and Rose (Darosz) Bagarus. They preceded him in death along with two wives, Barbara June (Renbarger) and Gwendolyn (Tyler); a sister, Ella Barkovich; and two brothers, Steve Bagarus and Louis Bagarus.

Surviving are two daughters, Brenda Ann Bagarus and Carla Ann Bagarus, both of South Bend; three grandchildren, Pfc. Melissa Marie Niswonger, stationed in Fort Hood, TX, deployed in Afghanistan, Richard David Dawane Niswonger and Kristina June Niswonger; two sisters, Rose Zwierzynski and Julia (Ernest) Dobrzykowski; a brother, Julius Bagarus of South Bend; and his ex-wife, Betty Lee (Young).

 

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 1, in Zahoran Funeral Home, 1826 South Kemble Avenue. Family and friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today in the funeral home where a Rosary will be recited at 3:30 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
