Robert Louis "Bob" Bailey, 70, of Hansville died Feb. 21, 1999, at Island Health and Rehabilitation Center on Bainbridge Island.

He was born Sept. 20, 1928, in Wabash, Ind., to Roscoe and Francis (Smith) Bailey.
He was raised in South Bend, Ind., where he graduated from Wilson High School.

On June 8, 1996, he married Norma Jane Isakson, in Poulsbo.

Mr. Bailey served in the Marine Corps from 1946 to 1947 as an aircraft mechanic in the Pacific and at Midway.

He owned small businesses in South Bend, a grocery store and his own trucking delivery business and then worked for Dallas-Mavis Forwarding Co. for 30 years, retiring in 1993.

Mr. Bailey was a member of the Knights of Columbus, the Coast Guard Auxiliary, the Poulsbo Police Senior Patrol, the Lions Club of Indiana and the American Truck Historical Society.

Survivors include his wife; three sons, William and David, both of Bainbridge Island, and Gary of Spokane; three daughters, Barbara Weaver of Port Orchard, Mary Kathleen Tirotta of South Bend, Ind., and Nancy Foster of Seattle; a brother, Richard of Winston-Salem, N.C.; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

 

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary E. (Kelly) Bailey.

Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at St. Olaf's Church in Poulsbo.

Arrangements are under the direction of Miller Woodlawn Funeral Home and Memorial Park.
